Foreign Language - Seventh & Eighth Grade Program..

The language program at the Middle school is open to students in Grade 7 for French-Part I or Spanish-Part I. Students who successfully complete part II of the same language by the end of eighth grade will receive a notation of this fact on their transcripts and will be able to start the second year of the language as freshman. College preparatory students are required to complete three years of foreign language in high school. Starting at the middle school allows the student to progress to the advanced levels and acquire a high degree of proficiency and fluency.

One high school credit is granted to middle school students completing the two-year middle school Level I of a foreign language with a C average or better. At the end of Level I of all languages, all students will take a standardized test developed by the language department. Overall grades should be C or better for the student to go to the second level of language. Students obtaining a yearly average of less than C are encouraged to repeat Level I at the high school.
