Health - Seventh & Eighth Grade Program..

maums program of studies Health education at Mount Anthony Union Middle School is required in both seventh and eighth grade. It is part of a planned and sequential, K-12 comprehensive health curriculum that addresses physical, mental, emotional and social aspects of health. It recognizes that good health is a pre-requisite for success in school and life, and the end goal is to give individuals the knowledge, skills, and support to develop to their fullest potential.

Health instruction provides up-to-date and relevant information concerning nutrition and healthy eating, prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, mental and emotional health, family life education, environmental health, injury prevention and safety, personal health and fitness, disease prevention and control, consumer health, and community health.

Activities are designed to teach skills in assessing personal health and risks, gathering and assessing health information, stress management, communication with others, making critical decisions, setting and achieving goals, problem solving, and conflict management.

Student leadership skills will also be explored and developed as an important component of this class. The Health instructor and the school counselors will work hand and hand to prepare students to make safe and healthy life choices.

This course meets twice each week for one half year for most students. Students electing to take Band and/or Chorus will attend one day each week for the entire year.
