Sixth Grade Special Subjects..
Students will be scheduled for the special subjects listed below:- LIBRARY - one period each week
- ART - one period each week
- PHYSICAL EDUCATION - twice each week
- COMPUTER - four periods each week (with the classroom teacher and a network lab supervisor)
- HEALTH - taught by science teachers. Among the topics discussed are human reproduction, the endocrine system, and the human life cycle.
As has been the practice throughout the SVSU, sixth grade students will be involved in a variety of assessments. MAP tests are given twice each year and are used by teachers as a data tool to adjust teaching based on student ability. NECAP tests are given in the fall school-wide and are used to provide information about our progress as a school as well as for feedback to parents regarding their child’s ability. The Gates Maginity assessment is administered by the sixth grade language arts teachers as a way to assess vocabulary and comprehension skills. Standards-Based Report cards will continue for the sixth grade, and we will continue to host parent conference days for each student.
