Handbook Bus Rules..

In Vermont, school bus transportation is provided for students as a convenience to attend school. It becomes part of the student’s responsibilities to be courteous and use common sense when riding the school bus. The following discipline policy is in effect: The bus driver is responsible for maintaining discipline and control at all times.
When misconduct occurs, the driver may:
  • verbally discipline and warn the child that riding privileges may be suspended and/or
  • report the incident to the principal for his/her action using the Bus Driver’s Report Form.
  • not suspend a child from the bus. This can only be done by the principal after proper notification to parents or guardians.
Students who violate bus safety rules will face the following disciplinary action:
  • First Offense: Warning
  • Second Offense: 5 Day bus suspension
  • Third Offense: 10 day bus suspension
  • Fourth Offense: transportation denied the rest of the year.
The school administration reserves the right to take more serious disciplinary action by skipping some of the above steps if the infraction is severe.

PLEASE NOTE: Those students who have been restricted from riding the bus MUST provide their own transportation to school.

WAITING FOR THE BUS
While waiting at the bus stop, students will act in an orderly fashion. Playing games in the street is dangerous and is prohibited. Students should not approach the bus until it is completely stopped and the entrance doors are fully opened. You will not be picked up or let off the bus on a steep grade, blind curve, or on the brow of a hill.

WHILE ON THE BUS
When the bus door opens, students should proceed directly to their seats, be seated, and remain seated until the bus is completely stopped at the school or at the student’s assigned bus stop. Do not put bundles, parcels, books, lunch pails, etc. in the aisles or step well at any time.

The bus operator cannot let anyone take animals, firearms, or anything that would hurt you or someone else on the bus. At no time, stick your arms or head out the window, throw or drop anything from the bus, sit in the driver's seat, attempt to operate the bus, tamper with any of its controls or emergency doors.

Appropriate behavior on the bus DOES NOT INCLUDE shouting, using abusive language, smoking, possessing items such as snow, ice or large sports equipment such as skis. Deliberate damage to the school bus will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely, with the student being financially responsible for the damage.
